No doubt about it. White is one of the hardest colors to choose.
That's because white is highly reflective and what surrounds it can impact how it looks. So can the time of day, the time of year, and the lighting.
And then there's this: white isn't a single color but a range of shades with a variety of undertones. Benjamin Moore has over 150 shades of white!
So how do you find a "neutral" white, one that has a nice balance of warm and cool tones without being slightly pinkish, yellowish, bluish, or greenish?
For several years, our favorite - along with many designers - was Benjamin Moore's Simply White OC-117 - the very color that Benjamin Moore named color of the year in 2016. Even Architectural Digest took notice!
So unless you're specifically matching to another shade of white, Simply White is simply beautiful. On trim. On ceilings. On walls.
But there's so much more! As white cabinets became more and more popular, we found that Benjamin Moore's White Diamond (OC-61) and Chantilly Lace (OC-65) were almost perfect matches to the white Kraftmaid cabinets people were choosing.
For subtle contrast, Swiss Coffee (OC-45) has a slight hint of color on the warm side and Paper White (OC-55) has a slight hint of color on the cool side - both great choices for subtle contrast to white cabinets.
Benjamin Moore has good advice on choosing a white.
